Course Description
This survey course takes a superficial overview of the so-called bloodborne pathogens (Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV), with special emphasis on Hepatitis B. The material is a compilation from CDC and NIH publications designed to meet the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) Bloodborne Pathogen Standard.
Course Objectives
1. Recognize distinctive features of the Hepatitis A, B and C
2. Identify bloodborne pathogens with available vaccines
3. Understand where bloodborne pathogens reside and how they can be transmitted
4. Recognize protective measures that should be taken in environments with exposure potential
5. Be familiar with diagnosis and treatment of Hepatitis B
