Course Description
This booklet was written for the consumer by the California Department of Consumer Affairs and is a joint project of the California Board of Psychology and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. It contains pertinent information for the licensed therapist, counselor, social worker and any other professional in a 'healer' position.
Course Objectives
1. Identify the warning signs of sexual misconduct by professional therapists and recognize California laws that pertain to this misconduct.
2. Evaluate where clients can seek help for sexual exploitation including licensing boards, sexual assault/crisis centers, and professional associations.
3. Determine how the sexual misconduct complaint process works and identify options for civil and criminal actions against the offending therapist.
