Course Description
Bipolar Disorder is a concise course which gives an overview of how the illness affects over two million American adults and causes unusual shifts in a person's mood, energy, and ability to function. The information is taken from the National Institutes of Health publication which was designed to inform readers about the diagnosis and causes of bipolar disorder and to briefly discuss pertinent information about treatment options.
Course Objectives
1. Describe the four basic types of bipolar disorder and the symptoms of mania, depression, and other ranges of moods associated with the illness.
2. Exhibit an understanding of various treatment approaches to help those with bipolar disorders, including medication, psychosocial treatments, and nontraditional treatment options.
3. Examine the risk factors associated with bipolar disorder, how it is diagnosed, and where to go for help when needed.
