Course Description:
This course provides the treatment field with an overview of domestic violence so that providers can tailor treatment needs accordingly. Describes techniques for identifying domestic violence, legal issues, such as restraining orders and duty to warn. Discusses the difference between survivor clients and batterer clients.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1) Describe the connection between substance abuse and domestic violence
2) Explain the difference between survivor clients and batterer clients and the respective treatment challenges of each
3) Describe some of the techniques for identifying domestic violence
4) Discuss some of the legal issues, such as restraining orders and duty to warn that bear upon domestic violence
