Course Description:
This course provides an overview of naltrexone as a medication, its mechanism of action, its pharmokinetic properties, its safety and common adverse effects. Also contains an overview of neurological reinforcement systems and drug dependence. Suitable for both those who do not have a medical background and those who do.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1) Describe neurological reinforcement systems and their relationship to drug dependence
2) Identify the patients most likely to benefit from naltrexone treatment
3) Identify naltrexone's pharmacokinetic properties
4) Discuss some of the safe and adverse effects of using naltrexone therapy
5) Explain some of the clinical considerations when prescribing this medication
